SUMMARY:From Representation to Transformation: Embedding Inclusion in Education
DESCRIPTION:From Representation to Transformation: Embedding Inclusion in Education\nIn the FED’s submission to the DfE’s Call for Evidence for the Curriculum and Assessment Review last November, which was based on hundreds of dialogues with thousands of stakeholders which we have facilitated over the past four years, one resounding theme was that cultural inclusion must take centre stage.\nIt is imperative that cultural inclusion is not an afterthought but an integral element of the education system, designed from the start. This involves embedding inclusive practices from the outset to ensure every learner thrives in a supportive and diverse environment. Specifically:\n\nA Reflective Curriculum: The curriculum must mirror the diversity of society, representing groups that have been historically racially minoritised, LGBTQ+ communities, and individuals with disabilities.\nDiverse Perspectives Across Subjects: Integrating global issues and cultural diversity is vital across all subjects, with areas like literature and history offering immediate opportunities for transformation.\nCommunity-Driven Learning: A well-rounded curriculum should leverage local assets, spotlight community opportunities, and inspire students to contribute meaningfully to their surroundings.\nCombatting Disengagement: Learners have voiced feeling underrepresented in curricula and assessments, leading to disengagement. Updating outdated and exclusionary content is crucial for re-engaging students and fostering a sense of belonging.\n\n \nJoin Us for a Virtual Roundtable Discussion\nWe invite you to an exclusive roundtable discussion featuring:\n\nAshraf Ali – The Read Foundation\nViv Grant – Integrity Coaching\nPenelope Harrison – FED’s Learner Council\n\n \nTogether, we’ll explore actionable recommendations for policymakers to ensure assessments and curricula are more inclusive. We’ll also spotlight replicable and scalable examples of good practice that can serve as models for change.\nThis closed event is your opportunity to make your voice heard. While we welcome all interested participants, we are particularly eager to hear from practitioners, learners, school, college, and university leaders, policymakers, parents, and carers.\nReserve Your Spot Today\nSpaces are limited, so we encourage you to secure your place early to join this vital conversation about shaping an education system that truly represents and uplifts every learner.\n
