SUMMARY:Lessons in good policy making – Reflections from the inside
DESCRIPTION:\n“There has never been a more important time for education policy” – how often have we heard that phrase over the last 20 or 30 years? Why have so few of the lasting changes that have been heralded by successive governments stuck? It’s time for us to take a step back and learn from the experts about what good education policy making looks like.\nIn this session, sponsored by the Edge Foundation and the Foundation for Education Development, Branwen Jeffreys, the BBC’s Education Editor will chair a panel of former Permanent Secretaries from the Department for Education. They will reflect on education policy – what worked, what failed, the lessons they learnt, and how we can deliver a  more consistent, long-term approach to education policy making moving forward.\nSpeakers\nChair:\nBranwen Jeffreys – Education Editor BBC News\nPanellists:\nJonathan Slater – Permanent secretary at the DfE 2016-2020\nDavid Normington G.C.B Permanent secretary at the DfE 2001-2005 \nLord Michael G Bichard – Permanent secretary at the DfE 1995-2001\n \nThis is an in-person event hosted at King’s College London. Registration required.\nPlease note the discussion will be filmed.\nMore details will be sent to guests closer to the time.\n
